Tallinn tram tickets and prices 2026
A €2 one-hour ticket, day passes, the Ühiskaart and free travel for Tallinn residents — all ticket types and prices in one place.
How to pay for a tram ticket in Tallinn
Tallinn has a single ticketing system: the same ticket is valid on the tram, bus and trolleybus. You can pay for your journey in three ways — with the Ühiskaart, with a contactless bank card straight from the validator, or with a QR ticket that you buy from pilet.ee or the app.
Every time you board you must validate your card or QR code in the validator — even if you already have a valid period ticket or the right to travel free. An unvalidated journey counts as travelling without a ticket.
You cannot pay with cash on the tram and tickets are not sold by the driver.
Ticket types and prices
Prices are set by the Tallinn City Council regulation “Procedure for paying for travel on Tallinn public transport and ticket prices”. All prices include VAT.
Who travels free
Tallinn public transport is free for all Tallinn residents whose registered place of residence is Tallinn. The right to free travel is activated when you personalise your Ühiskaart and must be proven by validating every time you board.
The system checks your place of residence automatically at least once a month — if you register your residence outside Tallinn, the discount is lost.
- Tallinn residents (by the population register) — with a personalised Ühiskaart
- pupils up to 19 years old whose residence is in Estonia
- people aged 65 and over whose residence is in Estonia
- pre-school children and an adult accompanying a child under 3
- children with disabilities and adults with a severe disability, with a companion
- conscripts, the repressed, and police officers in uniform
Fine for travelling without a ticket
Inspectors ride the trams regularly. A fine is imposed for travelling without a ticket; if you have no valid ticket, having money on your Ühiskaart will not help either — the card must be validated.
Where to buy a ticket
Contactless bank card
Tap the front-door validator with a contactless bank card or phone — you automatically get a 1-hour ticket for €2. You cannot buy a discounted ticket with a bank card.
Money on the card or a period ticket
If there is money on the card, the validator buys you a one-hour ticket when you validate. You can also load a 1, 3, 5 or 30-day ticket onto the card.
From the pilet.ee website or app
Buy a QR ticket from pilet.ee or the mobile app and validate the code with the reader on the front-door validator. Ideal for a visitor who does not want to buy a card.
R-Kiosk, Coop, Selver and others
You can buy and top up the Ühiskaart at sales points across the city, including at the airport, Balti jaam and the bus station.
